There's a lot of whiners on the internet. There's a group of whiners which annoy me the most, the ones who whine about your army and how they find it boring etc. This is annoying and also rude, I don't say how crappy their army is, right? I am pretty sure that in person someone wouldn't say that to your face, so why say it over the internet? What exactly is boring?
Your army is boring, because it's mech
There's a big base of players who don't like mech. I can see and understand why they don't like mech. It's because it's every where, but unfortunately this is way the ruleset is.
My answer to that is a little blunt; don't hate the player hate the game.
Another reason why people hate vehicles is because they have problems popping them, this turns into anger which turns into hate (Yoda quote!). I can understand this from certain armies point i.e Tyranids who haven't got huge amounts of anti tank, at least at range anyway. Daemons my also struggle in certain builds.
Depending on your army, you can easily avoid this anger and hate situation if you adapt. That's the main problem, people refusing to adapt. I know it's annoying changing your army after you've had it several years (believe me, it's something I am worried about with 6th), but as the game evolves the player really has to evolve as well. I know it's sort of forcing people to go with the flow, but if you're going against the grain then you're going to have problems. I'll give you a example, I took my Razor-Angels to a club once and played against someone who had very little anti tank. Add in some bad tactics and little anti tank the game turned in my favour on turn 7. If that said army list had more anti tank weapons and also used better tactics then the player would have certainly done better and wouldn't have felt frustrated at the end of the game.
Personally seeing a formation of armour with infantry supporting is pretty cool. I really do like my las/plas Razorbacks supporting my Blood Angels on foot as they burn and chop up infantry. Also, when armies do go to war they do have transport vehicles.
Unfortunately you don't see that type of army all that much, the common mech army is transport armies i.e Razorbacks, Rhinos and Chimeras. When I make a new army I do often think it's the same old transport lists again, and I totally agree, it can get a little boring when using the same sort of style as other armies 'shooting out the hatch' tactics can get a little jaded if nearly all your armies do it.
I guess with mech is boring is I understand people's view points on this one, though I sort of don't agree and plus I like tanks :P
Spam! Spam! Hate! Hate!
A lot of people don't like spam in armies. They say it's boring to play against and boring to use.
Boring to play against, I can honestly say I've never had this problem. I play among a massive pool of players and no two lists are ever the same. You may get some a-like, but say out of Venom-spam armies I've only played against two others. Out of mech Guard and Space Wolves I've only played two or three other people with that style of army. I wouldn't say that's huge numbers to get bored of playing against the same old army over and over.
I guess it depends how many times you play against a certain army build and how common it is around your gaming area. If there's loads of mech Guard players about then I can perhaps feel your pain.
I can see another reason why people say spam armies are boring to play against and that's because these type of lists rarely change. I am not speaking from a tactical point of view. If you're playing against MSU Razorspam all the time then you're soon going to adapt to that and learn how to beat that style of list. Not before long you will find that style of list isn't a offering you a sporting chance any more and instead becomes a bore-fest.
I guess I can understand why people say spam lists are boring to play against, I think it really boils down to how much you play against those lists. But what would playing with spam lists? I'm a spam lover and really I don't find any of these lists boring (well maybe mech Guard but that's more down to my fast army play style). Sure it's the same stuff repeated, but that's the beauty of it. It makes the list easier to use as everything has the same rules, wargear and profiles etc so you don't forget about anything. It's also easier to get everything to work together if it's the same. From a list building point of view, spam is needed for saturation and depending on what player you are, then you will only take the best units.
Yawn, so tired of painting
When people say you're army is boring they also say how boring it is to paint. This is really referring back to tanks and spam and really now comes full circle. People don't like tanks because they are boring as just a metal box and people don't like painting spam armies because it's the same old units and nothing different to paint.
Now I cannot understand why painting things all the same is boring. To me is makes life a lot much easier, especially if you have airbrush and can spray the entire lot in a basecoat all at once and then pick out the details. I guess for the hobbyists among us, those who like painting, it gets a little tedious and boring painting the same colours on the same Assault Marine over and over. If perhaps there was some different units in there say Death Company or Sanguinary Guard then the painting wouldn't be so boring, at least that's what I understand from a whiner who says painting my Red Fleas will be boring.
Painting, I don't find it boring. I have found it to be more tedious and a chore. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind painting and I would rather play with a painted army than a unpainted one. When I've fully painted and based a army I get a huge sense of achievement out of it, however it is a mission to do that. For me, painting units which are the same doesn't bother me. It kind of makes life easier for me (a gamer before painter) as I can get things done quicker with a limited pallete of colours. The times I've found painting really tedious is when working on a single army at a time, you start working with the same colours over and over and it can really draw out. I think the worst one was my Dark Eldar, they was seriously getting on my nerves.
What I am really trying to say is painting I can deal with, but those who finding painting spam armies boring, I just find painting tedious and a chore. I don't get a huge amount of excitment out of it, but this is what makes up difference. Some people like painting and others like playing the game, that's all fine and all gravy.
If you find armies boring, why is that? Do you find mech or spam armies boring? Or is painting a serious bore-fest for you?
