Discussion - This army, that army or the other one over there?

I couldn't find a suitable picture for what I wanted to talk about today, so enjoy the bird ;)

There's something lately what's been getting on my nerves and that's army dabblers. Let me explain before you boo and hiss at me.

People get interested in a army for different reasons whether it's the fluff, models or how that army plays. Many people have multiple armies, like myself for example. It's cool when people break their own mould and try something new.

I am a firm believer of quality control. If I am planning to start playing a new army, modified list or different unit build then I'll want to test whatever it might be multiple times so I can get a good outlook on it and make judgement after several battles, not just one.

Here's the thing what bugs me. When people only try a army list once and don't really give it much of a play testing. Ok, you can decide that you're not keen on something straight away and that something really is that bad, though that's only really going to be a single unit and the entire army. I think people should test their lists a bit more, get know the weakness and strength of that list and become a master instead of swapping and changing units over every 5 minutes. Now I'll admit I play mono builds and some people will say I play boring armies, that's cool, whatever you think is alright, but from my point of view I know how to play those armies and I am a master of them all.

Another thing what sort of goes hand in hand with the above is people bouncing from army to the next. Sure I like to play something with a different flavour (that's why I have several different armies) but playing one army one week and proxying the force another week for another army, you'll just keep going around in a circle and never learn anything.

I think what I am trying to say is, sometimes people just need to stop fannying about. Focus on what you have now and make it work, get the army streamlined so it's a bad ass face stomping steam roller. I know some units won't work, that's fine, but you cannot make judgement on a whole army in just one game. It's the same for bouncing from one army to the next and playing a different one each week. You'll never learn the tactics of that army if you keep trying a new army all the time with different units. You'll forget things like special rules too.

What do you think guys? Am I been a bit of a hardass or should people put their army into a longer test phase instead of trying it once and moving onto the next one and then the next one and then the next one. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
